UAH BalloonSats 2014
Three student payloads launched, three recovered.
On Saturday, November 15, 2014, students from the University of Alabama in Huntsville launched three balloons carrying payloads they call BalloonSats. Each one carried an APRS transmitter along with the students' experiments — the senior class does this every fall.
They asked us to recover the payloads for them. Shane, N4XWC, and I drove up Friday night and stayed in Cleveland, Tennessee, so we wouldn't have to drive as far on launch day. The predicted landing zone was in that area, and as you can see, the predictions were pretty close.
It was a very successful day: all three payloads were recovered easily — two in a field and one in a tree that we could reach from the ground. Below are all three flight paths and the landing sites as we found them.
